One logical reasoning to Netero being so strong is either he achieved Enlightenment and earned his thousand armed buddha or he's a reincarnation of Vishnu cause both in Manga and Anime in Killua's vision he had vishwaswaroop behind him. Netero was the only person who fought one of the confirmed strongest being Maha Zoldyck (As mentioned by Killua's grandad in this episode) and survived.
